Bioharmony African Ginger (Siphonochilus, Isiphephethu)
Siphonochilus aethiopicus.
This rare African plant of the Ginger family is regarded as Africa’s natural anti-inflammatory, and it has many other uses.
Indications
Dose
One tablet up to eight hourly with meals. For sore throat, or
oral thrush the tablet can be chewed with a little water, and swallowed.
Contraindicated in pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
Chemistry and Pharmacology
The conical rhizome and roots contain a high percentage of a characteristic
sesquiterpenoid, which is a key phytochemical active. Extracts of the
rhizome have been demonstrated to be anti-inflammatory (prostaglandin-synthetase
inhibition), bronchodilatory, smooth muscle relaxant, mildly sedative,
and anti-candidal. The presence of antiseptic monoterpenoids contributes
to the bioactivity.
